Fibre broadband boost comes to Runcorn and Frodsham

Tuesday, December 10th 2013 by Paul France
Runcorn and Frodsham have gained fibre broadband access as part of the Connecting Cheshire project.

The Cheshire towns of Runcorn and Frodsham have been connected to fibre optic broadband thanks to a rollout project by BT.

Engineers' initial work has already brought the superfast service to 900 premises in Runcorn and 1,400 in Frodsham.

The upgrade is part of the Connecting Cheshire project, which is a collaboration between the service provider and four local councils.

BT north-west director Mike Blackburn explained that he has been delighted by the progress of the Connecting Cheshire project. He told Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News: "Our roll-out of fibre broadband continues at a world class pace in the region with Runcorn and Frodsham now benefiting."

He went on to reveal that the work BT is doing all over the country is currently bringing the fibre optic service to around 80,000 homes and businesses a week.

By the time the rollout in Runcorn and Frodsham is completed, it is estimated that 17,300 local premises will have been connected.
