Hambleton residents will be able to connect to fibre broadband from this weekend.

Gigaclear's fibre optic broadband network in the Rutland village of Hambleton is set to go live this weekend, local internet service provider (ISP) Rutland Telecom has announced.

More than two-thirds of local residents will be able to connect to ultra-fast broadband speeds as a result of the rollout, which commenced in September and will officially come to an end on Saturday (October 29th 2011).

The Hambleton Hotel and Restaurant inspired the rollout after contacting Rutland Telecom about the chances of delivering faster broadband access to all of its guests.

"Rutland Telecom quickly recognised that the entire village was capable of receiving the holy grail of broadband: FTTH (fibre to the home)," the company explained.

The project soon came to the attention of Gigaclear, which saw an opportunity to bring the ISP under its umbrella of service delivery and network construction experience.

Core equipment for the fibre broadband rollout was provided by ZTE, while the design and planning stages were conducted by AFL.
