Powernet launches business fibre optic broadband service

The technology offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps.

Powernet, which claims to be the oldest business broadband provider in the UK, has announced the launch of its fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) product.

The fibre optic broadband service offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps, coupled with a maximum upload capability of 10Mbps.

According to the company, the development means smaller businesses, start-ups and branch offices will no longer find their location and distance from the exchange hampers the capacity they can receive.

Founder and chief executive of Powernet Tony Tugulu described the advent of FTTC as "game-changing" as it enables smaller internet service providers (ISPs) to match the speeds offered by their larger rivals.

"This means that customers can now benefit from the best of both worlds - high broadband speeds with top-notch, personalised customer service that only a smaller ISP can provide," he added.

Powernet, established in 1995, has its head office in Milton Keynes and its own network based at Telehouse and Global Switch in the Docklands.
