Tenby and Saundersfoot to get fibre broadband by December

Fibre broadband is on its way to Tenby and Saundersfoot.

The Welsh communities of Tenby and Saundersfoot should be able to access fibre optic broadband by December 2014, thanks to the Superfast Cymru rollout programme.

High-speed internet is being brought to these areas by network provider BT and the Welsh government, with the initiative expected to see 96 per cent of premises in the country connected within the next two years, the Western Telegraph reports.

Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology Ken Skates has praised the announcement, calling it "good news for Saundersfoot and Tenby".

However, local MP Simon Hart has urged residents in the region to remember they won't automatically be able to access the superfast service, as they will have to register for an upgrade to fibre with their network provider.

When they do so, speeds of at least 24Mbps will be available, which Mr Hart said would "be a revelation for most of us".

The MP recently met with BT to discuss the rollout of better broadband to Tenby and Saundersfoot, stating he is "delighted" these will be the first communities in his constituency to receive an upgrade to fibre.
